Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1909-D PCGS MS-64
Lot Number: 179
Description: Joanna H. Fogle Collection. The strike seems to be slightly better than average and the luster definitely exceeds expectations, such that in combination, the MS-64 grade seems perfect for this common and popular date. Technically a "strike through" example, small, shiny patches near the bottom of LIBER indicate the presence of tiny moisture droplets just prior to striking. It may be interesting to know as a side note that, between the two grading services, something like 65-thousand (!!) 1909-D half-eagles have been certified, and but a single one has ever qualified for a "star" at NGC (not the present coin), indicative of the mundane, common quality of the issue.
