Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1893-S PCGS F-15
Lot Number: 589
Description: Bluntly stated, this "king of Morgan dollars" actually has "very-fine" details, and in fact, the cataloger thought the grade should be VF-25 at first glance. Not only is the detail "all there" for a better VF grade, but the color is absolutely fantastic for a mid-level silver dollar, showing delightful crŠme -grey with charcoal accents, and even some middling dove-grey colors that nearly leads to a very coveted "tri tone" visual aspect. And on top of all these accolades, there are no dings, no dents, and no major hits to interfere with the smooth, honest circulation--except one. PCGS evidently took the high road here, and netted the grade down ten points due to an ancient, lengthy curving pinscratch that arcs down the obverse left field and travels over the end of Liberty's nose. Because of the age and the toning of the scratch, it is nearly forgivable at arm's length, but requires mention if a description is intended to be balanced an accurate. Nevertheless, it's a date that never appears in F/VF grade, and one must expect spirited bidding.
