Description: 123 graded MS-67, 8 higher at NGC. Huge mintage of well over 12-million Philadelphia dollars in 1883 belies the rarity of the date in grades above the present "superb Gem". It is an issue notorious for indifferent production, as many seen even well-preserved show poor strikes. Fortunately, even given some delicate softness over highpoint details (particularly over the ear), not much complaint can be made for this example, which offers an incredibly clean, unmarred surface and near-stupefying luster. Lovely chartreuse-grey drapes the obverse and most of the reverse, except that the latter side also retains a ring of delightful album toning.
