Description: The Lakewood Collection. 117 in AU-50 and 440 higher at NGC. The 1854-O $3 gold is the only gold coin of the denomination minted at the New Orleans Mint making it a key coin for branch mint gold enthusiasts. Genuinely scarce, the current NGC AU-50 example is one of the better surviving examples. It is estimated that only 1,000 coins survived in all grades and a mere ten in Mint State. This example has even wear with no major distracting marks to mention. Deep olive gold toning covers both sides and adds to this classic raritiy's already sky-high appeal. Expect spirited bidding when this lot crosses the auction block (ls).
