Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1879-S PCGS MS-62
Lot Number: 155
Description: Mintage: 43,500. 5 graded MS-62, 10 higher at PCGS. Quite unlike the contemporary 1879-S silver dollar, the quarter-eagle emission was strikingly low for San Francisco, and one has to wonder how much longer this will remain a "sleeper" within the series. While sometimes found prooflike, the present example must have been struck near the end of the life of the dies, as it shows classic "brilliant" luster along with a terrific strike. Dull luster seems to be the determinant of grade, as there are no marks or distractions of significance.
