Lot Title: 1843-D Large D PCGS AU-50 CACCAC
Lot Number: 145
Description: A truly wonderful find for the collector who appreciates completely original coins, this is absolutely a must-see Dahlonega quarter-eagle. Moderate olive-green and velvety scarlet-gold patina layers over virtually the entire surface, except on the slightly circulated high points which permit slightly brilliant golden accents to shine through. This is also an amazingly smooth, problem-free example given the mint of origin, since most are seen with significant abrasions, yet this example escaped with only a rim tick at 2:00, a light mark below the hair bun, and nothing else whatsoever to detract from the phenomenal quality. The Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award is intended to reward coins with extra special appeal, and sometimes, the simple quality of avoiding distraction can be exactly what makes a so-designated coin stand out from the crowd.
