Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1889 PCGS MS-65
Lot Number: 139
Description: Mintage: 29,000. A dazzling array of prooflike properties guarantee a lot of interest in this flashy, last-of-the-series gold dollar. Specialists should pay particular attention, because the headband displays a full, bold LIBERTY, and is not missing any letters as is often seen for 1889 (especially proofs). The date is common in any grade and frequently used for type purposes, but many collectors acquire Gem examples of the late-date gold dollars simply because they are always so beautiful. This intricately struck example has all the makings of a true proof, but does not use the correct obverse die (which was reused from 1888 proof strikings).
