Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1892 PCGS PR-67
Lot Number: 884
Description: 15 graded PR-67, 5 higher at PCGS. Although the mintage of 1245 pieces is not necessarily low compared to the rare dates in preceding series, the 1892 gleans its popularity as the first date of the Barber design. As the mint came up to speed on producing the new half-dollars as proofs, strike quality varies from coin to coin, but the present example seems to be an exceptionally well delineated specimen, showing no weakness at all, not even at the truncation of the eagle's right wing, which is where one usually finds some evidence of incompleteness. Lovely pastel shades of ebony-blue and crimson-gold splash widely across the top and briefly across the bottom of the obverse, and cool deep ocean-blue accents flow inward from the reverse rim.
