Description: Copper Clappers Caper Collection. 13 graded MS-67, 1 higher (MS-67+) at PCGS. Frequently serving type purposes, the 1857 half-dime proves to be quite common in all grades up through the gem level, but the supply drops off precipitously above MS-65, with just a single example nicer than this by the breadth of a mere "plus" sign. Looking carefully at the surface, it's tough to believe anything nicer could exist, because there is just not a single contact mark to be found. Furthermore, the obverse exhibits exquisite orange-peel texture in the fields that creates a breathtaking backdrop for Liberty's extremely well detailed portrait. Polishing of the reverse die helps attenuate some of the orange-peel on that side, but both sides nevertheless display interesting clash marks.
