Lot Title: 1882 PCGS PR-68CAM
Lot Number: 460
Description: 5 graded PF-68 CAM, none higher at PCGS. According to the PCGS population report, there are no 1882 Morgan dollars finer in cameo proof format than the present example, and a careful examination explains why the graders were comfortable with such an exalted grade. The mirrors look like pools of flawless, blemish-free liquid metal, untouched and flowing with lovely, molten apricot-gold iridescence. As an aside, NGC mentions a PR-68/plus/star in their census report, but one can scarcely envision it being a technically better example. Remarkably, a pair of numerically equal 1882s show up in the PCGS population report as PR-68 DCAM, but the owner of the present sultry jewel need not fear. The contrast between mirrors and textured devices rivals that of many so-called DCAM Morgan dollars.

Placing a loupe to the surface reveals, as expected, no flaws. A tiny lint mark flutters well out in front of Liberty's lips and provides a suitable pedigree marker, which is fortunate since there are virtually no other aberrations that can be found otherwise. Perhaps an additional microscopic lint mark just left of the lowest arrow on the reverse could be noted. The devices were struck with absolutely impeccable precision, such that the eagle's pupil can be seen with inimitable clarity, and the high-definition continues all the way up to the extreme tip of each wing.
