Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1913-S PCGS MS-63
Lot Number: 290
Description: Mintage: 66,000. 27 graded MS-63, 17 higher at PCGS. From the moment San Francisco stopped producing tens in 1913, the 1913-S became a rarity due to the constrained emission. Depending on the precise mint-state numeric grade assignment, it ranks within the top handful of keys to the series, all of them dearly expensive at Choice BU and higher assessments. The grade fits the coin to perfection in this case, as the checklist for what comprises a choice gold eagle gets ideally matched against this specimen. Few marks affect either side, other than the light surface abrasions normally associated with production and storage, the surface itself portrays ideal, medium gold color with original skin, and strike quality bears up as a hair better than average for the date. For pedigree identification, an intriguing, subtle and narrow planchet fissure briefly parallels the lower left rim of the obverse.
