Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1905-S PCGS MS-64 (green label) CACCAC
Lot Number: 916
Description: Shawl Consignment. 18 graded MS-64, 12 higher at PCGS. A gem in every possible regard save one, this specimen would be an astounding grade-rarity were it not for a singular sharp reed mark at the upper neck that stymies all thoughts of upgrade. Suffice it to say one cannot hope to get a much nicer Barber half-dollar at the MS-64 level. Shimmering apricot-grey patina dominates the fluid luster, and San Francisco placed the considerable talent of its employees at the fore when this coin was struck virtually to absolute perfection. The 1905-S is notorious for striated planchets, and even this precisely defined example shows the subtle, parallel lines just over the eagle's lowest feathers, but no matter. Nobody could possibly complain about the exceptional condition of this semi-key entry into the series.
