Lot Title: 1885 PCGS MS-66+ CACCAC
Lot Number: 611
Description: 8 graded MS-66+, 3 higher at PCGS. Lying very close to the pinnacle grade, this key Liberty nickel zooms with amazing, vibrant luster and a torrent of frosty, silvery eye-appeal. In a series where high-quality proof examples are far more common than attractive business-strike examples, the former are often used to stand in for a superb quality collection, but the alternative is to stick with the true original, and place a very gem example like this into one's holdings. An extraordinary strike pulled every vestige of detail off of the dies, including fully articulated kernels in the left ear of corn, and although a couple of stars lack absolute completion on the obverse, this is due to die failure, rather than a weak strike. Indeed, some die cracks spear through the date and speak to an overworked obverse.
