Description: MAGA Collection. Kagin-4, R.5. Moffat & Co was the most trusted of the private California gold minters, and the half-eagle, while rare, is the most available of their issues. Technically a well balanced, somewhat lustrous example, each side displays occasional coppery accents upon the high points of the butterscotch surface. Typical lack of sharpness shows over the hair curls and the at the eagle's neck feathers and talons, but this is exactly on par with a typical Moffat striking. Several small, irrelevant scratches occur here and there, with one abrasion that aligns just left of "4" in the date that looks like recutting at first glance (but it is not).
