Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1877 MS-62, and an 1887 MS-64, both NGC
Lot Number: 177
Description: Watertown Collection. Rapid Reaction: 'wow'. Not often are two coins of such scarcity brought together as a pair, so pay attention. 1877 (mintage: 3000) offers a significant portion of the prooflike character usually seen for this date, with obvious contrast and fair reflectivity noticeable on both sides. A small copper accent retreats just beneath Liberty's ear, but the color otherwise seems uniformly attractive at the medium gold level. 1887 (mintage: 7500) was struck in a somewhat larger quantity, and examples therefore aren't usually quite as prooflike as the preceding, but obvious reflectivity and modest cameo nevertheless denote the splendid eye-appeal. Both are powerfully struck gold dollars, but the latter shows off particularly impressive delineation of every minute detail. Spectacular as a two coin lot!
