Description: Watertown Collection. Mintage: 13,000. 58 graded AU-58, 39 higher at NGC. Availability of this low emission issue relies upon the preservation of a number that were pulled out of circulation after only a brief stint, perhaps in anticipation of impending hostilities between the North and South. Some earlier dates of comparable mintage are much scarcer (e.g., 1859-S), but this does not mean 1860-S is a common date by any means, as the certified population affirms. The only 'wear' seen on either side here comes in the form of touch-friction, with virtually no metal lost to commerce. Otherwise, the satin-laden surface is spectacularly free from contact.
