Description: Blackjack Can Collection. Mintage: 153,950. A legitimate rarity at Fine and better grades (this one NGC VF-25), 1871-CC ranks with the terribly difficult Carson City issues of the 1870s that almost always get low-grade representation in typical album collections. Simply gorgeous medium grey patina drapes the surface here, interrupted by an "O" shaped pale area at the center of Liberty's torso -- almost certainly where the page insert of an old album rested against the obverse. For a half-dollar of this vintage, and of such esteemed scarcity, the entire coin is amazingly free from contact marks, making it no surprise that NGC contributed a few points of premium quality despite only LI...TY present on the shield.
