Lot Title: 1901-S PCGS F-12
Lot Number: 622
Description: Mintage: 72,664. 12 graded F-12, 82 higher at PCGS. It goes without saying that in every collectable grade, the 1901-S is the most difficult issue in the Barber quarter series, and the rarest regular-issue quarter of the twentieth century. As noted within the PCGS census, only eighty-two in ALL grades exist above the basic Fine level. It is an exceptionally elusive coin to find with LIBERTY fully legible on the headband, and that alone stands as the pre-eminent factor for this certified example. Attractive medium-grey shows splashes of somewhat darker charcoal accents speckling the obverse lower left field, as well as additional toning inflections within the recessed areas. A trivial pinscratch crosses over the upper portrait and gets joined by a few more delicate circulation hairlines off to the right. The reverse displays comparable characteristics, but also an additional burst of darker toning just right of the eagle's neck.
