Lot Title: 1925-S NGC MS-65 RB
Lot Number: 495
Description: Clem Stevens Collection. 11 graded MS-65 RB, none higher at NGC. The astute collector seeking gem red-brown Lincoln cents cannot improve upon the present offering, as neither PCGS nor NGC has assigned a higher grade at the red-brown designation. This might seem surprising at first blush until one realizes that 1925-S is often cited as THE premier strike-rarity in the Lincoln cent series, with the possible exception of the non-regulation 1922 "no D". Even this amazingly original gem shows evidence of well-worn dies, as some highpoint detail remains slightly indistinct at Lincoln's cheekbone and within his hair, and "O" in one shows modest definition. That said, strong wheat lines and careful delineation of the kernels prove this to be a significantly better-than-average 1925-S. Active luster beneath deep brick-red patina raises no doubts about the gem grade.
