McCloskey 4-D, large date, second head. Noticeable luster illuminates the peripheral areas, surrounding what seems like generally original surface qualities. Tougher in mint state than its 1908 no motto counterpart, the 1907 Saint Gaudens is known for its flat strike, a result of an overcorrection after the ultimately failed high relief experiment on the then new double eagle design. A stupendous medium-gold sheen glazes the obverse; both sides remain relatively unscathed from major incisions compared to other MS-62 twenty-dollar gold grades.
