The strike, while a little soft at the centers, probably exceeds expectations of 1889-O, so often found with poor detailing. Very mild eggshell patina permeates the surface and tends to amplify terrific luster.

Clem Stevens Collection. Superb gem examples also see good strikes, although only 1940-S has an "FB" designation. This coin features remarkable ruby-violet and coral-gold toning that must be seen to be believed. Accompanying is 1945-S for which either side receives a broad splash of Pacific-blue color joining crimson-gold lowlights. Two coin lot.
