The Trade silver dollar is among the shortest-lived series of coins to ever be issued by the United States Mint and that creates a supply shortage that is easily noticed by any collector of the type. There are nine examples of this short-lived series in this group lot that includes the following: an 1876 (AU details, cleaned), 4x 1877 (XF), 3x 1877-S (XF details, cleaned), and an 1878-S (F). Doctor Drew Collection. Sheldon-24 "apple cheek", a common die-marriage that always shows light die rust from the bottom of the neck into the date area. Cataloger's grade: [XF-40] takes into account the late die state V, for which a radial die crack crosses over "L" in LIBERTY. Marvelous Hershey-brown adorns the entire surface, yielding to only the slightest ashy texture on the high points, especially the highly rounded cheek evoked by the "apple cheek" nickname. Shallow detail at ENT on the reverse is characteristic of the die state and not due to circulation. Not known to many collectors is that Sheldon's father created the name for S-24.
