Collector Lots-Proof Sets
Any collector of early United States proof sets can tell you just how difficult it has become to find these sets “out in the wild”. A consecutive run of five such sets from 1938 through 1942 fill this group lot. Each of these sets are carefully housed in a Capital plastics holder and offers superb quality. Nearly all of the silver issues offer trace amounts of light toning while the nickels and cents show slightly higher degrees of toning that is typical for the type. There is very little question to the natural integrity of each of these sets (ck).

Included are: 1877-R 5-lire, KM#8.4 (lustrous pewter-grey that includes mossy golden hues at the periphery; one of the most counterfeited coins in the world by some accounts), and 1881-R 2 lire, KM#23 (rare in such high certified grade and significantly prooflike despite a blanket of smoke-blue and ebony-chartreuse toning). Recovered from the sunken Spanish galleon, the Santa Margarita this 8 Reale coin of Philip III is set into a 14K and sterling silver bezel. The bezel features a scene of a dolphin and a patch of seaweed. This does come with a certificate of authenticity from Mel Fishers’s Treasures, LLC. with a grade of four.
