  • Lot #395 - 1834 Classic, Plain 4 PCGS AU-55
  • Gold $5-Classic Head Half Eagle
  • McCloskey 4-C (R.4), block 8, plain 4, second head. 1834 marked the year when the mint changed design for the half-eagle, as the intrinsic value of each coin made it profitable (over face value) to melt them down for bullion. 4-C can most quickly be attributed by noticing a die crack that ejects from the top of Liberty's modified portrait. Noticeable flowline texture nearly touching the rims speaks also to later dies.

  • KM#294, Dav-2100, Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg-Hannover, Georg II "mining taler", Zellerfeld mint. Struck to honor The Goodness Of The Lord Mine, as is depicted on the obverse with a mine entrance within a heavily forested landscape. While both sides exhibit marvelous detail characteristic of relatively obscure "mining talers", someone has curiously tooled the entirety of the fields, converting what should be semi-prooflike reflectivity into texture.
