KM#55, Potosi mint, Charles III. Dispersal of a small hoard many years ago explains why mint-state examples of this date become available from time to time. Bright surfaces display more than a hint of semi-prooflike character, including some cameo contrast. Sharply double struck and featuring pronounced details on both sides.

VAM-3 is not indicated on the PCGS slab, nor is "Alligator Eye" for which the doubling in front of the eye helps explain that appellation. Not often mentioned is that this VAM also has an alligator tooth, visible as a tiny die chip between the lips. Probably at least semi-prooflike when struck, protected areas of this silver dollar still retain some flashy texture.
