Gold $20-Liberty Head Double Eagle
Mintage: 12,000. 27 graded AU-53, 44 higher at PCGS. Somewhat lustrous despite seven points of circulation, this double-eagle clearly started out with brilliant qualities rather than the semi-prooflike character often seen. Richer orange hues layer over nicely struck devices, and only expectant circulation marks show throughout; there are no singularly mentionable abrasions.

Technically showing a trifle more highpoint bagmarks than typical, the grade was assuredly elevated by tremendous eye-appeal created by lime-green iridescence around the rims, joined by richer orange-gold splashes throughout. The effect is almost mesmerizing in light of ravishing cartwheel energy.
