Ga Ha Ha Consignment. HK-449, R.4 in silver. 23 graded MS-64, 10 higher at PCGS. Struck to commemorate opening of the Manila Mint in 1920, which was the first and only U.S. Branch mint located outside of the United States proper. Manila struck coinage from then until 1945 when it was destroyed during the closing days of World War II, after Japan had seized the mint for production since 1941. Blistering luster generates adequate eye-appeal, along with pleasing vintage patina for this hefty specimen.

Included are: 1877-R 5-lire, KM#8.4 (lustrous pewter-grey that includes mossy golden hues at the periphery; one of the most counterfeited coins in the world by some accounts), and 1881-R 2 lire, KM#23 (rare in such high certified grade and significantly prooflike despite a blanket of smoke-blue and ebony-chartreuse toning). I have to admit, this one won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but you will have to admit that it’s pretty darn cool! The center has a precious orangey marquise coral cabochon. There is a freeform, bezel set fossilized ammonite stone and the piece is completed with a elongated cabochon identified as rutilated quartz. None of the stones have indications of polymers or dyes, Stone Group Laboratories report #240827R-SJ. This piece has a pin on the back and also opens so it can be added to chain. Dimensions 4" x 1.5", 26.2 dwt.
