Lot #502 - 1909-S NGC MS-63

Gold $20-Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle
A hoard discovered in the mid-1980s greatly elevated the supply of choice examples, but 1909-S remains much more elusive than the many common date Saints. This also appears to be the optimal grade, MS-63 representing the peak grade population for both grading services. Attractive, rolling satin luster steals the show, but this example does have a noticeable nick above the elbow.
