  • Lot #893 - 1853 NGC MS-65 BN
  • Hammer: $675
  • Large Cents-Braided Hair
  • Cochrane Gambit Consignment. Newcomb-3 and evidently die-state "b" including somewhat prevalent orange-peel flowline texture surrounding the portrait. Long use of the dies explains why N-3 is so common, although it is not the most prevalent 1853 die-marriage. Superior surfaces display no disturbances save a small, greyish circular patch beside the "U" of UNITED.

  • Lot #806 - 1869 NGC PR-65
  • Hammer: $1,050
  • Half Dimes-Liberty Seated
  • Clem Stevens Collection. A sensational proof type coin that deserves a "star" (it was likely certified before NGC ushered in the designation for superior eye-appeal), this Reconstruction Era gem earns the Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award. The obverse displays a phenomenally beautiful, fully circular pattern of rainbow toning that descends from the rim half way into the fields. The reverse survives with fully white mint brilliance. While the obverse also seems fully struck a hint of weakness shows on the reverse at upper left.
