  • Lot #394 - 1834 Classic, Plain 4 NGC AU-55
  • Gold $5-Classic Head Half Eagle
  • McCloskey 2-A is a cinch to attribute by noticing the tripled "4" in the date, as well as the egg-shaped period following 5D on the reverse. More than a twinge of luster lingers around the periphery, especially for the reverse, helping to settle the grade. While not a single surface nick warrants individual mention, either side does display its fair share of small, vague handling marks.

  • Half Dollars-Capped Bust, Lettered Edge
  • Overton-109a can be quickly attributed by noting a heavy die crack through AMERICA, diagnostic also of the die-state. The borders for this dynamic, near mint example feature highly attractive album toning painted in lavender-orange, russet-gold and ocean-blue colors. Substantial luster dominates the fields but as expected, it disappears within the widest expanses due to finger wear. The cataloger notes a few unimportant pinscratches over the eagle's beak and a trio of minor linear abrasions in front of the portrait.
