A single reed mark on the cheek provides by far the most obvious sign of contact since the balance of either side remains unexpectedly free from marks -- remarkable for the issue. Much like the preceding 1851-O, these early New Orleans issues are not extremely rare within the AU grades but become virtually impossible to locate in UNC.

Multiple displays of toned surfaces cover each example that includes 8x 1881-S MS-63 and a lone 1887 MS-64. All of these are securely housed in older “soapbox” style slabs giving this group lot an added layer of appeal (ck).
