Cataloger's grade: [MS-62] with the usual caveat being that the second opinion is "through the plastic". But even careful examination finds no evidence of cleaning, a few wispy hairlines on the cheek and being of trivial note. The reverse shows certainly more vibrancy than average for 1896-O while the obverse appears noticeably more subdued and also features bag abrasions on the lower cheek and left field.

The front design of this brooch displays a beautiful purple/white rendition of a pansy with natural split pearls (none missing and no replacements) all around the edges; a single faceted old cut diamond at the center weighing approximately .15 ct. SI clarity, I color which adds an additional sparkle to the piece. The enamel is in excellent condition. Dimensions: 1.65" x 1.25", 8.9 dwt.
