Collector Lots-Mint Sets
Early United States mint sets are among the most difficult items to find in their original condition and packaging. There are five such issues here that includes a 1949, a 1951, a 1952, a 1954, and a 1957. Each of these are still in their original cardboard sleeves and envelopes as well. Wispy and dusty tones cling to all of the surfaces of each issue within each set lending even further evidence to these particular set’s originality. Lot #417 - 1883 PCGS MS-64

23 graded MS-64, 8 higher at PCGS. A very low mintage of 900 pieces explains why so many 1883s are prooflike, although the present example displays mostly typical luster with hints of flashy texture throughout the fields. Strangely, about half of examples seen tend to be mint-state, although few approach gem status. A sharp strike points to minimally used dies, such that even the lower curls of the hair are rather distinctly separated. Stray marks favor the right field just slightly even while overall, this coin managed to evade most of the bagmarks that often plague other issues within the series.
