Lot #452 - 1839 Head of 1838 NGC AU-58
Gold $10-Liberty Head Eagle
27 graded AU-58, 13 higher at NGC. 1839/8, large letters, and variously referred to as the "head of 1838". Marvelously sharp overall for an 1830s gold piece, even if the obverse stars display only minimal sharpness. Only limited cartwheel effect is able to project through light mustard-gold patina yet very little actual wear affects major details. Delicate marks fall across both sides, joined by a few mentionable light rim dings on the reverse.

The stone is flanked with half moon and round brilliant diamond weighing an estimated .75 cttw, SI clarity, I-J color. Ring size 6, 7.0 dwt.
