101st Airborne Collection. A group of Standing Liberty quarters was recently extracted from the consignor's Dansco collection, as all the other pieces are circulated. Included are: 1917-D type-2 (MS-62 and extremely original toning that looks much like mint-set patina), 1919 (UNC/FH but showing hazy surfaces), 1925 (Ch BU), 1926-D (UNC but not well struck and showing album color), and 1928 (Ch BU/FH and with attractive turquoise iridescence clinging to the devices. 54 graded MS-66, 10 higher at NGC. As the 24th state admitted to the Union, the mint denoted that status on an apparent minority with "2x4" stamped into the obverse left field. And as a result of lower mintage combined with generally mediocre quality for the type, a very-gem example like this is a welcome option over the usual lackluster examples on the market. This coin features superb, original platinum-tan coloration throughout, surrounded by a hint of deeper russet-gold. Fewer than a handful of trivial nicks on the cheek and some brief, faint hairline abrasions across the shoulder appear to be the extant of contact.
