1847 PCGS XF-45, unattributed die variety. 1847 PCGS XF-45, unattributed die variety.
Lot Title: 1847 PCGS XF-45, unattributed die variety.
Description: There is something strangely compelling about the luster and matte field texture of this early gold Liberty eagle, with traces of luster noticeable at the edges, and limited deposits of deep royal-gold patina nearly hidden in the recesses. An old scratch in front of Liberty's forehead is hardly noticeable, and does not affect the grade. On the reverse, an interesting die anomaly looks very much like a misplaced small "O" at the intersection of the horizontal stripes and the second set of vertical stripes. This same anomaly has been noticed on other examples of 1847, and it would be interesting to seen an explanation of this phenomenon.
