Perhaps a trifle bright, both sides nevertheless emit prime luster, uninhibited by any notable toning. Either the "4" in the date was potentially repunched, or else a tiny chip lining the bottom of the crossbar looks just like an errant placement worthy of further investigation.

A fully brown color designation might seem more appropriate to many viewers as only about 15% or so of the vintage mint red remains, but one cannot know whether the coin mellowed while stored within the slab. At any rate from a technical preservation standpoint, this one rises above many, if not most Hawaii cents given freedom from the corrosion that frequently visits these rare and desirable pieces. Well struck throughout and a coin that would be a welcome addition to any astute collection.
