Newcomb-1. Cataloger's grade: [XF/trace corrosion] as can be seen by a little bit of buildup within the final four stars. It's quite possible the surface can be conserved to reveal a very nice example as the surface overall exhibits pleasing cocoa-brown and faint, waxy steel highlights. The reverse appears basically unsusceptible to abrasions while fewer than a handful of tiny marks land on the obverse.

Collectors of the series are not wont to underestimate the difficulty of locating a nice, very-good 1916-D dime with no problems. This example, slightly glossy on the obverse but showing rich dove-grey patina on the reverse, boasts strong, fully rims and portions of the vertical lines within the fasces. A very difficult example that clearly spent decades within an old Whitman (or similar) "thumb-buster" coin folder.
