Quarter Dollars-Standing Liberty
101st Airborne Collection. A group of Standing Liberty quarters was recently extracted from the consignor's Dansco collection, as all the other pieces are circulated. Included are: 1917-D type-2 (MS-62 and extremely original toning that looks much like mint-set patina), 1919 (UNC/FH but showing hazy surfaces), 1925 (Ch BU), 1926-D (UNC but not well struck and showing album color), and 1928 (Ch BU/FH and with attractive turquoise iridescence clinging to the devices. A fully brown color designation might seem more appropriate to many viewers as only about 15% or so of the vintage mint red remains, but one cannot know whether the coin mellowed while stored within the slab. At any rate from a technical preservation standpoint, this one rises above many, if not most Hawaii cents given freedom from the corrosion that frequently visits these rare and desirable pieces. Well struck throughout and a coin that would be a welcome addition to any astute collection.
