KM#65.1, narrow rim, Bitkin-2 (we believe). Modestly impaired mustard-gold luster layers the entire surface, offset by a fair number of delicate abrasions across the portrait. Slightly strike-doubled on the reverse.

THE common entry for the three dollar gold piece, 1878 most often serves type purposes near the gem grade level. That said, this is an exceptional example for MS-64+, utterly filled with tortoise-shell luster patterns and dominated by beautiful, fresh medium golden color. A small copper spot escapes between the first two digits of the date.
