Lot #295 - 1859 half dollar J-238 CACG PR-63BN
Patterns-Patterns
Judd-238 R.5 and a popular Longacre creation for the half-dollar denomination, struck in copper with a reeded edge. A hundred percent of the obverse displays deep nut-brown patina while the central reverse retains a portion of flashy prooflike surface beneath powdery surface texture. Three or so lengthier abrasions on the cheek and a few far-flung nicks in the fields ascertain the grade.

Fabulous, fine-matte texture endows this coin with outstanding eye-appeal. Scarcely any major abrasions at all can be found, but a subtle sliding abrasion rises from the eagle's back, and a small depression shows in the lowest feathers of the headdress. Very few trivial surface grazes show on the obverse. A delightful example of a coin that suddenly becomes rare at the next grade level.

A lovely Victorian sunburst pin crafted in 14K yellow gold with seed pearls adorning the rays that are natural and all appear to be original to the setting. There is an approximate .40 ct. round diamond in the center, I1 clarity, I color and a safety catch at the back to hold the pinstem in place. Dimensions 1.5” x 1.5”, 5 dwt.
