Mintage: 42,500. Heavier abrasions thump the reverse while overall, both sides show a number of the bagmarks expected of the date. 1897-O is not actually rare despite the lower mintage, but certified mint-state examples prove difficult to find at PCGS. A glittering example with occasional greyish crumbles that suggest a non-cleaned surface.

19 graded MS-67, 1 graded MS-67+, zero higher at NGC. Borderline sensational, the obverse offers blatant semi-prooflike cameo appeal while the reverse sees only a hint of the same flashing energy. Astute examination will reveal faded hints of a clashed die which required lapping, and that explains the plethora of die polish in the fields as well as the lightly mirrored effect. Astounding!
