  • Peru - 1803-LIMA IJ 8 reales - NGC MS-64
  • World Coins-Peru
  • KM#97 Lima mint, Charlies IV. An astonishing example that lands right next to the gem grade level, both dies exhibit a typically shallow strike off of somewhat aged dies. Inclusion of adjustment marks ensure a lack of perfect detail at the center, but what sets off the numismatic appeal is the extensively textured aluminum-white surface that absolutely gleams with icy Arctic brilliance.

  • Lot #709 - 1881 PCGS PR-65+DCAM CAC
  • Hammer: $8,500
  • Half Dollars-Liberty Seated
  • WB-101, characterized by a split, open berry over "H" and longer talons and arrowheads, and considered rarer than the "closed berry" reverse. 1 graded PF-65+ DCAM, zero higher at PCGS, making this a candidate as the finest-known 1881 proof half-dollar with maximum contrast. Very low mintage between circulation strike and proofs for 1881 drives demand for the date overall, but this happens to be a very attractive example as well, and not just because of a sensational strike and inimitable cameo presentation. Royal plum and midnight-blue drape a brief, crescent area over the top of Liberty's head, balancing against golden-brown rim toning outside the stars and date for the obverse, while the reverse gets framed oh-so-beautifully within similar coloration that adds in more rich, plum accents. Superb as a pedigree marker, a distinctively jagged, small strikethrough lays over Liberty's upraised hand.
