  • 1908 PCGS MS-65
  • Gold $2.50-Indian Head Quarter Eagle
  • Gloriously frosted and blazing with golden hue, this 1908 would be common in any lower grade but becomes highly coveted at the gem grade level. An impeccable strike may have brought up all the obverse definition while the eagle's shoulder barely misses perfection. A few stray hairline abrasions left of the throat and of the date represent practically the only surface disturbances.

  • Lot #636 - 1890-S PCGS MS-66
  • Hammer: $2,400
  • Silver Dollar-Morgan
  • The Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award immediately comes to mind for a better-date silver dollar that has everything going for it, including the very-gem technical grade that takes into account an unusually thorough strike for a date often found with incomplete central details. More important, it seems clear that this silver dollar spent decades in a Kraft envelope as both sides have developed somewhat irregular but extremely attractive tortoise-shell toning. Toning on the obverse gathers up olive-grey, sunset gold, ruby-orange and indigo hues with a touch of cyan toward a couple of stars, while the reverse reflects magenta-rose, turquoise-gold and chartreuse-orange, a bit better organized into somewhat circular patterns.
