  • Each of these high-grade “Hoer” notes are housed in very early holders from each grading service, and each further hosts a manuscript endorsement. The PMG 64 EPQ note contains the military endorsement of Major Abraham B. Ragan, who was the Chief Paymaster stationed in Atlanta. Prior to the war, Ragan was a United States Army paymaster in the Washington Territory. He resigned his U.S. Army commission when he learned of the secession of his home state of Georgia.

The PCGS 58 graded note was issued out of Hempstead, Texas. Hempstead, located about 53 miles northwest of Houston, served as the site of several CSA military training camps, explaining why these notes were issued from this location. The note also has an IP stamp paying interest to January 1, 1865 (note that this was done by utilizing a stamp originally intended to be used in 1864 and writing in a "5"). The Hempstead location is very rare on T-41 “Hoer” notes.
