  • 1913-D PCGS MS-65RD
  • Small Cents-Lincoln, Wheat
  • Fully red designated Lincoln cents from the 1910’s and 1920’s are quite scarce and often times bid for considerably more than coins from the same grade and date in red-brown and brown. A few carbon flecks do persist on the coin presented here, notably on top of the “1” in 1913, above the “Y” in LIBERTY, and above the “U” in E PLURIBUS UNUM. Still, it’s a remarkable reminder of how brilliant Lincoln cents come when they are exceptionally preserved and unoxidized. (CE)

  • Lot #483 - 1889-CC NGC AU-55
  • Hammer: $6,000
  • Gold $20-Liberty Head Double Eagle
  • Mintage: 30,945. Although discovery of a small hoard in the 1990s elevated the population of mint-state examples, demand for 1889-CC remains very strong today due in part to the low mintage -- but also because of the Carson City mintmark effect, of course. Here is a stellar AU-55 example that virtually satisfies any need for mint-state quality as both sides absolutely gleam with essentially full cartwheel luster. Merely trivial hairlines separate the reverse from MS-60 while the obverse shows trivial rub on several curls trailing downward from the hair bun.
