  • 1878-CC PCGS XF-45
  • Gold $20-Liberty Head Double Eagle
  • The Wild Steven Collection. 1878 was easily the Carson City’s most diverse year for coinage, with seated dimes, seated quarters, seated halves, trade dollars, morgan dollars, and double eagles produced. The coin offered here presents fabulous, fluttery patina in the form of rich flaxen gold color with splashes of light indigo and lilac in the northern half of obverse. However, a touch more wear than preferred for the 45 grade and what looks like a missed scratch almost all the way across the reverse should be mentioned. (CE)

  • Lot #483 - 1889-CC NGC AU-55
  • Hammer: $6,000
  • Gold $20-Liberty Head Double Eagle
  • Mintage: 30,945. Although discovery of a small hoard in the 1990s elevated the population of mint-state examples, demand for 1889-CC remains very strong today due in part to the low mintage -- but also because of the Carson City mintmark effect, of course. Here is a stellar AU-55 example that virtually satisfies any need for mint-state quality as both sides absolutely gleam with essentially full cartwheel luster. Merely trivial hairlines separate the reverse from MS-60 while the obverse shows trivial rub on several curls trailing downward from the hair bun.

  • Pense a moi! Think of me - French Victorian parlance for gifting a lady one with a precious token of love! The pansy has always been a well-received gift item at any time of the year and this Christmas, maybe some lucky lady will receive this beauty! The front design of this brooch displays a beautiful purple/white rendition of a pansy with natural split pearls (none missing and no replacements) all around the edges; a single faceted old cut diamond at the center weighing approximately .15 ct. SI clarity, I color which adds an additional sparkle to the piece. The enamel is in excellent condition. Dimensions: 1.65" x 1.25", 8.9 dwt.
