Silver Dollar-Morgan
Benjamin J. Collection. A pair of better silver dollars match up very well due to extensive luster and silvery aspects. Included are: 1890-CC (cataloger's grade: [AU-58], reverse is fully BU while utterly opaque friction barely shows in the obverse lower left field and over a portion of the cheek), and 1898-S (cataloger's grade: [MS-63] and looks much nicer due to grand-slam silver-bright luster and a superior strike, but delicate bagmarks lining the obverse left field must be accounted for). Two coin lot.

Well preserved surfaces are delicately swathed in steamy patina, which itself yields to rather exceptional toning on both sides, but especially the obverse. Here, fiery crimson-gold and chartreuse colors encircle a bright silver-blue oval over the Indian's portrait, while on the reverse, Arctic-blue and magenta-peach blend together. Remnants of a fingerprint beneath the bison's head may be limiting the technical grade, but the aesthetics would be difficult to beat at the gem grade level.
