Large Cents-Draped Bust
Sheldon-266, die-state IV, the 1804 date obviously a key and even more elusive due to how many collectors pursue S-266 by die-state. For this bold example, rim breaks show plainly over RTY and MERIC. Dies are rotated by about 20 degrees for a coin that makes the cataloger's grade of [XF/corrosion removed], and the surface has been rather nicely recolored with chestnut-brown patina that has olive inflections on the reverse.

Mastodon Collection. KM#MB54, Venice mint, 0.1 oz. While generally available in circulated grades, the gold Scudo becomes elusive closer and closer to mint-state. This example shows some edge clips, perhaps as-struck, and surprisingly bold definition given the very thin flan and low relief design.
