Lot #763 - 1861-O WB-103, Confederate Issue, PCGS MS-61
Half Dollars-Liberty Seated
WB-103. PCGS did not recognize the "bisected date" which might have quickly led to realization that this half-dollar was struck under authority of the Confederacy after the New Orleans mint was seized at the beginning of the Civil War. Although graded only MS-61, both sides exhibit charmingly vibrant luster. Ref: A Register of Liberty Seated Half Dollar Varieties, Bill Bugert.

Certainly a lot better struck than most 1903-O dollars, the obverse central details fall barely shy of completion while the eagle's breast feathers seem almost perfectly struck. Incredible, resplendent luster absolutely zooms around devices and creates a veritable torrent of eye-appeal.

Circa 1960/1970, this sterling silver (tested, not marked) and turquoise squash blossom necklace features 10 blossoms set between seamed beads and an 8-stone Naja at the bottom. The design of the piece is mostly original with a slight twist on modernism. The turquoise used in the making appears to be from the Cripple Creek mine. Condition is very nice for its age with a vintage patina to the metal. Unsigned piece so tribal affiliation is unknown. Length 28”, 5.78 troy ounces.
